Primary election 7.2
There aren’t a lot of decisions to make on the Aug. 5 primary election ballot for Lenawee County voters.
No choices for U.S. Senator nor county commissioner. There’s only a single Congressional candidate for Republicans and no one is running for drain commissioner for the Democrats.
But there are four decisions to be made before the general election in November and voters must be registered by Monday in order to participate in the primary.
Voter registration can be completed at city or township offices, the county clerk’s office, the Secretary of State office or on-line at www.michigan.gov.
Votes cannot be split between the two parties in a primary election.
Republicans will choose a county road commissioner candidate from three options—Matt Koester, Douglas Lerch and Donald Isley—and a drain commissioner candidate from Stephen May and Eric Anderson.
One sheriff candidate will also be selected among Republicans Cletus Smith, Jack Welsh and John Birdwell.
The Democrats will choose either Mark Schauer or Sharon Renier for a U.S. Congress candidate. Five sheriff candidates are on the ballot: Adolio “Al” Navarro, Thomas Popejoy, Larry Weeks, Steve Beaubien and Gail Dotson.
