Brett Merillat earns Eagle Scout award 7.25
Boy Scout Brett Merillat was presented with a challenge and he met it. His success led to a long-held dream of becoming an Eagle Scout.
The Hudson resident will celebrate his achievement Aug. 18 at ceremony in Morenci.
Brett wasn’t a Cub Scout for long before setting his sights on earning the Eagle badge. As he worked his way up through Scouting’s ranks, it was finally time to develop an Eagle project.
Brett worked with the Lenawee County Chapter of the American Red Cross to do more than just organize a blood drive; he was challenged to double the usual amount of donations at Morenci bloodmobile visit.
With the help of other Scouts in Morenci’s Troop 681, the challenge was met—despite the added challenge of a power outage the day of the drive in 2006.
Brett was a member of the Hudson’s Scout group through the first four years of Boy Scouts. When Hudson Troop 650 discontinued, he joined Morenci’s troop to finish out his Scouting career.
The 16-year-old is a senior at Hudson High School and intends to become a mathematics or science teacher. He is the son of Gene and Kathy Merillat.
• Friends of Brett are invited to attend his Eagle Scout ceremony at the Morenci Church of the Nazarene at 2 p.m. Aug. 18.
