Fayette council 5.16
Fayette village council members were briefed on several ongoing projects Thursday during a meeting that lasted less than an hour.
Village administrator Tom Spiess reported that the Ohio Department of Transportation has awarded the upcoming resurfacing project on State Route 66 between US-20 and 20A to the Gerken contracting firm.
Gerken’s low bid of $104,380 for additional work in the village comes as good news to council members since the project was recently estimated to cost more than $130,000. This additional work includes the installation of new curbs between Main Street and County Road R, which will be funded with state rehabilitation funds and money from a commercial loan.
Construction is set to begin May 30 at the junction of State Route 66 and 20-A. Spiess hopes the work is complete in time for the Bull Thistle Festival in August. The theme for this year’s festival is “Get Your Kicks on Route 66.”
TOWERS—Spiess informed council that two cellular phone companies plan to build reception towers near Fayette. Nextel/Sprint will build one of the towers. Alltel Wireless will build the other.
Spiess said he hopes the new towers will improve cell phone reception in the area.
