2010.09.01 Jennifer Williams: Support for music festival missing
The third annual Fayette Music Festival was Aug. 21 and as you may remember the weather wasn’t very nice for an outside event. As the day went on our prayers were answered. The clouds broke up, the sun popped out and it turned out to be a very pleasant evening. There was great music, good food, and laughs shared by those few brave souls who attended.
As a Fayette Park Board member I would like to say “Thank you” from the bottom of my heart to those who came out to support our event—not only this year’s attendees but also those who have attended in the past.
We try to plan events that appeal to all walks of life, young and old. The funds from these events are used to better the park and lower costs for our kids programs. The people attending our events also purchase things at the local businesses, and could possible attract new people to move into the area.
But a big part of our event equation that is missing is our Fayette community support. It surprises me that the attendance is so low. If everyone in the Fayette area would view this event with an open mind, the benefits would be huge by attracting more and more outside attendance with their family and friends. One thing I want to stress is that our Music Festival is not a drunken heehaw. We bring in good clean bands and local vendors with great food—all at a reasonable price.
One of the biggest rewards of being a Park Board member are the great memories I have of the events we plan. It was wonderful to see the many children running around throwing a football, or just sitting with their family enjoying the music.
There was one child who brings a smile to my face every time I think of this year’s Music Festival. I thank you, Danny, your great dance moves and big smile helped me remember why I invest my time to plan park events.
I really appreciate knowing that the family time I lose planning events, isn’t a huge waste.
