2009.12.02 Judy Whaley: Frustrated with America's leaders
I have gotten so frustrated by the things going on in America. But what can one do here in the Fayette/Morenci area? Christians can pray every day for America.
I have listened to TV and radio programs about how America was born through our founding fathers and their faith in God. Our children are no longer being taught in school the who, what and why of our country. Do people realize that Thanksgiving Day was actually created as a spiritual holiday? For most, the celebration has taken over the reason for the day, much the same way as it has for Christmas.
I read an article the other day by the Prime Minister of Australia, Kevin Rudd, and it says it all. He started out by saying immigrants have to adapt to Australians. He is tired of his country worrying about whether immigrants (individuals or culture) are being offended. The culture in Australia has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.
He goes on to say that in Australia they speak English and if you want to be a part of Australian society you have to learn to speak English. The article said that most Australians believe in God and that this is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women founded their nation on Christian principles, which is clearly documented. They can display it on the walls of their schools.
He feels if God offends you, then you should consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is a part of the culture there. If you don’t like their flag, their pledge, their Christian beliefs or their way of life, he encourages you to use another Australian freedom—that of the right to leave.
Why can’t our leaders in our government take a similar stand on these issues? Why have we gotten so far away from that which America was founded and why?
Wake up, America! We need to take our country back to the principles on which it was founded.
Please pray for America.
