2009.08.26 Gayle Hazelbaker: Libraries important to communties
Whether we realize it or not, libraries are an essential part of our community, our education programs, our workforce development programs and everyday life for many people. The state legislature is currently working on the Fiscal Year 2009-2010 budget and libraries across the state are facing dramatic funding cuts.
I understand tough choices are being made in many areas, but libraries cannot afford additional funding cuts and continue to provide service to their communities at the level that is expected.
I urge all of you to visit www.MiLibrariesForTheFuture.org and learn more about this topic and what these cuts mean to you, me and our community. We have a great library in Morenci; one worth fighting for. A rally is being held on the capitol steps September 10 in Lansing to raise awareness; I hope you will join us there to show your support.
