2013.01.09 Michele Smith: Commending those who helped

Written by David Green.

I got a serious shock on Friday morning when my scanner went off and I realized they were talking about my mom. She had fallen on the ice and a man down the street somewhere was coming home from work and found her. I don’t know how long she was lying there and I know she would have been there for 10 more minutes before I would have found her.

I don’t know his name and I don’t know how to ever thank him for calling 911, but I know I would like to. I’m so glad to know that there still are great people out there who do the right thing and don’t just look the other way.

Jody and Dennis Owens were also a great help. They brought my mother some blankets to keep her warm until the EMS got there. It’s nice there are still wonderful caring people in the world like these three. I wanted to write this so maybe this story would inspire others to do great things and not overlook the little things. Thanks for your time and for reading this.

– Michele Smith, a grateful daughter
