On Tuesday, March 1, 2011, in the Morenci High School gym, before the boys basketball game, a beautiful thing happened. One of the Summerfield basketball players presented the Morenci community with a check for $1,000 for the Skelton Reward Fund. It came with an explanation that the students had been selling bracelets for the missing Skelton boys.
Not knowing what else to do, in that moment of surprise, solidarity and support, we simply stood and applauded. Long and hard. It was an honor to share that moment.
Truly, we were blown away by Summerfield’s kindness, faith and generosity. Tears sprang to our eyes, and all we could do was stand and applaud their spirit and graciousness. We were deeply surprised and affected. Our “thank you” is inadequate, but deeply heartfelt.
Summerfield, you did a good thing. A very good thing. God bless you and those little boys. Thanks for walking this walk with us.
