You can tell you live in a small when the top story in the local newspaper is about the Goodwill truck visiting. Or else the editor is lazy. Well, I was out of town on Sunday and we had company, etc., but I wasn’t aware of much news to report.
The manure spill is big news, of course, and I was surprised by the array of fish shown in the photo. I didn’t know that little stream support such a fish population. At least it did before last Thursday.
In other news from this week’s print edition (there must have been some news to report):
Yes, the Goodwill truck will be in Morenci Saturday. And, yes, the city-wide cleanup is the following Saturday.
A proposed tax credit would benefit Silbond’s production of ethyl silicate. The Weston plant is the only producer of the substance in America.
Colleen Leddy and David Green both got a break this week. Their son-in-law Taylor Ballinger wrote columns for both of them. What a guy.
Fayette has a new United Methodist minister, Katherine Currier.
Fayette Athletic Boosters discuss plans for future athletic fields at the new school. They can barely pay for grading the land now, but you have to start planning.
The Ohio EPA discusses its plans for dealing with contamination at the former Fayette Tubular Products site: continue filtering ground water; let it naturally decompose; seal the factory floor.
The 50th Lyons Chicken BBQ is Saturday. I think that means the Clayton festival is this weekend, too, but I never received any information about that. Fayette’s Bull Thistle Festival is the following week, Aug. 1.
We have a few photos from the visit last week by Fiddlers ReStrung. They’re a very impressive collection of high school students. They’ll perform next week at the Lenawee County Fair.
Lightnin’ Rod Wilson and the Thunderbolts will also perform at the fair. I haven’t heard from Rod in a while but I’m glad to see that he’s still rocking.
Finally, there’s my report on a few odd items spotted at garage sales.
Those are the highlights. There’s even more in the print edition.
