Horses, fish, chickens, turkeys and blue owls. It’s a very animalistic issue this week. The main feature is about a local farrier, Penny Sutton. She was concerned about what I would come up with for a story because I didn’t ask many questions. Ah, but I listened well.
In other news from this week’s print edition:
Morenci schools will get two new buses for the price of one through a federal program.
It’s city-wide cleanup day Saturday in Morenci, also known as trash pickers/recyclers delight. A lot of curbside items trade owners this week.
Rich Foley writes about his garage sale; David Green recycles something from 20 years ago. The editorial takes on what seems to be a denialist attitude about contamination on Fayette’s former school property. Of course there was never soil contamination. That was never an issue. It’s the ground water.
Fayette council decides to ditch the law requiring fences around swimming pools and considers allowing chickens in town. Music Fest ’09 is planned on the running track Aug. 15.
Fayette school non-union employees get a pay raise, funded largely by a voluntary cut in the superintendent’s salary.
The singing group Gemini – big stuff on the preschooler circuit – will perform at Morenci’s library today at 1 p.m. Actually, they’ll sing at the more spacious Morenci Bible Fellowship Church.
We also have photos from the Lyons festival and details on Fayette’s festival this weekend.
Those are the highlights. There’s plenty more to see and read in the print edition. Or better yet, save some cash and order an on-line version. You can do it right here on the website. You’ll have your paper before it’s off the press (except you won’t be able to touch it).
