My mamma once told me that when speaking in public don't worry about getting every statistic and bullet point in that you had planned on. People want to see you look them in the eye and share your vision and passion .

Ah, but she DID write an allusion to it--.

http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2010/02/sarah_palin_uses_cheats_her_wa.html

"Palin glanced down at her hand during an answer and it became clear that she had notes written on it (the words "energy", "budget cuts", "tax" and "lift American spirits")"

Frankly, I don't care if people write their notes on their interviewers foreheads--whatever allows coherence in the presentation. However, in this case, she made such a big deal about the teleprompter issue so that's why people came down on her. Having said that, I think the teleprompter is such an annoying prop--the turning of the head from right to left suggests that the speaker could be watching a ping-pong match; it's really off-putting for me. If Obama is such a gifted speaker, it seems he could get by on written notes, whether on paper or on his hand. I hate the side-to-side head turning--I don't care who does it.

I'm sure someone could find a Clinton speech where he uses that device but generally, he was so knowledgeable about his subject matter that he didn't need one. (Ah, for the good old Monica Lewinsky days).
