Write it down

Follow this link to see the To-Do-Tattoo kit. This must be what Sarah Palin used during an interview at the Tea Party convention. She likes to make fun of Pres. Obama’s use of a teleprompter, but she was seen allegedly consulting her hand for prompts. Maybe/maybe not, but she might want to check out this product.

This two-sentence quote from her speech was definitely not written on her hand. It’s the third of her top three priorities for Congress:

I think, kind of tougher to put our arms around, but allowing America’s spirit to rise again by not being afraid to kind of go back to some of our roots as a God fearing nation where we’re not afraid to say especially in times of potential trouble in the future here, where we’re not afraid to say, you know, we don’t have all the answers as fallible men and women so it would be wise of us to start seeking some divine intervention again in this country, so that we can be safe and secure and prosperous again. To have people involved in government who aren’t afraid to go that route, not so afraid of the political correctness that you know – they have to be afraid of what the media said about them if they were to proclaim their alliance to our creator.

Divine intervention as a Congressional policy?

Ah, but she DID write an allusion to it–.

“Palin glanced down at her hand during an answer and it became clear that she had notes written on it (the words “energy”, “budget cuts”, “tax” and “lift American spirits”)”

Frankly, I don’t care if people write their notes on their interviewers foreheads–whatever allows coherence in the presentation. However, in this case, she made such a big deal about the teleprompter issue so that’s why people came down on her. Having said that, I think the teleprompter is such an annoying prop–the turning of the head from right to left suggests that the speaker could be watching a ping-pong match; it’s really off-putting for me. If Obama is such a gifted speaker, it seems he could get by on written notes, whether on paper or on his hand. I hate the side-to-side head turning–I don’t care who does it.

I’m sure someone could find a Clinton speech where he uses that device but generally, he was so knowledgeable about his subject matter that he didn’t need one. (Ah, for the good old Monica Lewinsky days).

My mamma once told me that when speaking in public don’t worry about getting every statistic and bullet point in that you had planned on. People want to see you look them in the eye and share your vision and passion .
