Remember when school parking lots were fairly small because practically no one but staff members drove to school? You need to be rather old to remember that. Now you can add another question: Remember when younger children walked to school? Now, it seems that most are driven to school.
According to a survey by the National Household Travel Survey, walking children has gone down from 41 percent in 1969 to 13 percent in 2001.
