Valium? It’s so yesterday

Ralph came across this graphic from Good showing prescription medication usage in 2009 for the unhappy United States of America. It’s not only for depression; the chart shows psychiatric drugs in general. According to the webpage, the number of prescriptions written last year exceeded the number of Americans.

Xanax led the way with 44 million prescriptions, well ahead of Lexapro and Ativan. I haven’t even heard of those last two. Their billion-dollar marketing must be failing. Way down at the low end is Valium. Wasn’t that once the only drug of this kind used?
