Morenci police are reporting the death of Matt Phelps, 36, of Morenci after he was struck by a vehicle on M-156 near the Sutton residence. The driver of the vehicle was David Gerkin, 17, of Morenci. The accident occurred in the dark before 7 a.m. Phelps was walking north along the road and the Gerkin vehicle was also traveling north.
