I almost prefer the "Obamamobile" reference instead of the one proposed by the American Tradition Partnership, a conservative advocacy think tank. They call the Volt an Obama-mandated death-trap. Here's the quote: "Thankfully there aren’t many of the Obama-mandated death traps to recall. Chevy sold only 1,139 Volts in November and will miss its annual sales goal of 10,000 cars by almost 4,000. Most of the cars that did sell were bought by, you guessed it, the government."" http://www.americantradition.org/?p=2296

Just like their branding the estate tax as a "death tax" and saying that Obama's healthcare plan includes "death panels"---it's always that element of fear that they like to insert into everyday conversation. Even if Obama were the best president in the world (and he certainly fails in many areas) there would be nothing this man could do to ever rate one positive comment because of their abject hatred.

Conservatives, led by Fox News, have been pushing a variety of lies about the Chevy Volt. They’ve falsely asserted that it is unsafe and a creation of the Obama administration, using absurd terms to discourage sales like, “exploding Obamamobiles.”

This relentless partisan campaign against American products and American jobs has been so successful that GM CEO Dan Akerson suggested it contributed to lower than expected demand, “We did not design the Volt to become a political punching bag and that’s what it’s become.”

The above quotes are taken from the following link and is an apology, of sorts, from Fox regarding the false information they've been faithfully disseminating.

And that article from Automotive News added a link to Bob Lutz blog on Forbes.com-

<blockquote>After said Fox News turkey, there may well have been some backroom discussions between GM and Fox because, oddly enough, shortly thereafter, quite a few Volt commercials ran on Fox for which I doubt any money was exchanged.

So, the latest update: two nights ago, the imperious, self-glorifying O’Reilly, unquestioned ruler of the “No Spin Zone,” once again kicked the “Volt” around and proclaimed “several have caught fire.”

I had no idea a car had gotten so much political focus. But Google helped me locate current “Obamamobile” conversations. My first two Google results were self promoting videos (they used “Obamamobile” to sell their book or video ads) and the next two anti-Obama political blogs. This fourth result is from AutoNews.com:

<strong>Chevy's Volt draws GOP scorn as campaign ... - Automotive News</strong>
Gingrich quote from article:

<blockquote>"The average family that buys it earns $170,000 a year and this is Obama's idea of populism and in his new budget he wants to increase the amount given to every Volt buyer to $10,000, which is an amount which would allow a lot of people to buy a decent secondhand car but it wouldn't be an Obama car," Gingrich said to cheers in Peachtree City, Ga.
"But here's my point to folks: You can't put a gun rack in a Volt. So let's be clear what this election is all about," Gingrich continued. "We believe in the right to bear arms and we like to bear the arms in our trucks."

Since neither of us can prove whether or not the term "Obamamobile" has ever been uttered on Fox, I've deleted that line. As far as the Volt being maligned by Fox, I'll have to go with what a frequent watcher and true fan of the show said on "Fox and Friends" during an appearance with Steve Doocy. I mentioned it because it backs up the studies about the misinformation given during the station's programming.

I don't ding Fox, as you say, because it's fun to do or to score political points. It's that I find it very troubling that the American people are being misinformed. Yes, it's disturbing that the misinformation forms political discourse, but it's really very worrisome to think that a large segment of the population believes the incorrect information that the programming gives out. I want the country to be smarter, not stupider. Spieckerman gave some good examples, right on the air.

What's my beef? That deserves some contemplation. Regarding your original post there were two things I guess. You passed along incorrect information, embellished it and attributed it to Fox News. Secondly, you have repeatedly denigrated Fox News viewers based on what? That was my original question back to you.

On a larger scale my beef is that I enjoy a debate of ideas but I feel like on this blog you really don't want debate, you want to vent. I guess that is okay, it is your blog after all. However, it does bother me to read false information, know that it is false and let it slide. I think one of the tenets of the progressive movement is an acceptance of speech or actions that are considered out of the norm. However, my experience is that progressives are the least willing to hear an idea contrary to their own without dismissing the person and idea as "uninformed".

What's your beef here, Contrarian - that no one on Fox has ever used the phrase Obamamobile? The Volt is very commonly called that. No, I can't prove that it's been uttered on Fox, but Lee Spieckerman claims the Volt has been very much maligned on Fox, with misinformation given. Are you disputing him? Is that what you're after?

Or do you have a problem with the research showing that Fox watchers are ill-informed?
