I'm pleased to see that contrarian read part of the article but I have a feeling s/he probably stopped at the point where a documented link was supplied to support the accusation that Fox intentionally skews the news to fit their conservative bent. An email from managing editor, Bill Sammon, directing the newscasters on how to downplay the scientific data on climate change is a known fact. When asked about it, Sammon, or anyone at Fox declined to answer.

And it wasn't always about climate change. Another released leaked e-mail showed Sammon urging staffers to forgo the phrase “public option” for variants of “government option,”...

Here is Sammon's directive to associate Obama with the terms, Marxism and Socialism. http://mediamatters.org/blog/201102010022

Even if the denier would consent to read these links and see the blatant information first hand, he/she would still say (just like the birthers) that it's all made up. There is no amount of proof available to convince them because they are of this selective exposure group.

A sister article was printed several weeks ago which was just as lengthy and just as astounding/puzzling.

"Buried in the Pew report was a little chart showing the relationship between one’s political party affiliation, one’s acceptance that humans are causing global warming, and one’s level of education. And here’s the mind-blowing surprise: For Republicans, having a college degree didn’t appear to make one any more open to what scientists have to say. On the contrary, BETTER-EDUCATED Republicans WERE MORE SKEPTICAL of modern climate science THAN THEIR LESS EDUCATED BRETHREN (my stress capitals) Only 19 percent of college-educated Republicans agreed that the planet is warming due to human actions, versus 31 percent of non-college-educated Republicans.

"For Democrats and Independents, the opposite was the case. More education correlated with being more accepting of climate science—among Democrats, dramatically so. The difference in acceptance between more and less educated Democrats was 23 percentage points."

The fact that politically sophisticated or knowledgeable people are often more biased, and less persuadable, than the less educated was mind-blowing, according to the writer. And it didn't just apply to climate change. Here's the article: http://tinyurl.com/6wkes6o

"Thus, they would come into the encounter with Fox not only misinformed and predisposed to become more so, but inclined to be very confident about their incorrect beliefs and to impart them to others.”"
Wow! That is really an explanation that I’ve been searching for for the past decade. I’ve thought it over in my mind thousands of times of why or how this could possibly be–particularly among the very educated–and now, here is some light shed on the matter.

Because I “hear” the Fox psychobabble 10 hours a day, I am very well-versed on their modus operandi so it isn’t as if I speak without knowledge of the issue. But to be honest, I’m probably just as guilty of “selective exposure”–simply because I HAVE heard their deceptions and choose not to listen to their “fair and balanced” noise. Conversely, as this article states, only a small minority of their listeners would consider tuning in to another channel).

I cannot begin to count the times I’ve asked a Fox News watcher whether or not he or she has heard (on Fox) about any subject that is currently being discussed, either on other channels or in news editions, (including Der Spiegel and Al Jazeera) and in every instance, they’ll say they haven’t. One of the latest examples was the exposure of the corporate-funded ALEC and the Koch Brothers influence on the organization. They had no idea what ALEC was nor had they even heard the acronym.

Now you can say that that information is just liberal mumbo-jumbo and that the Libs don’t know what they’re talking about but the fact is, the organization HAS been exposed, whether or not one appreciates it. It is documented. What I’m saying is that Fox News didn’t even report it–even though they know that it happened. And the reason they can’t talk about it is because it knocks right at their very doorstep. They simply cannot speak ill of the Koch Brothers because Charles and Dave are paying (even if indirectly) the Fox employees’ salaries. The theory put forth in this article explains why the Koch Brothers are able to freely insert their influence on every conservative idea and policy–particularly where the Tea Party is concerned. It could probably be said that they are the ones who really write the script for Fox and the ultra-conservative congresspersons. http://www.republicreport.org/2012/koch-secret-electioneering/

There IS one statement with which I disagree, however:

“…even if you’re a liberal Democrat, you are affected by the station.” If you watched Fox, you were more likely to believe the nine falsehoods, regardless of your political party affiliation.”

That is really insulting and assumes that Libs haven't done their homework.
