The end of the Flip

Sybil sent a link to this Free Press story about Cisco killing off production of the Flip camera. I think I probably own a lot of obsolete technology. My Flip is still functioning well. It’s a great little camera for those of us who don’t have a smart phone:

The news is not surprising, but marks a decided shift in how consumers now capture and share digital video. Most of the top smartphones now record digital video on par with the best Flip cameras.

Producing video on a smartphone allows users to immediately share that video on the Web without the use of a computer. Amateur filmmakers can also now edit video clips directly on their smartphone before posting them to social networks like YouTube or Facebook.

And to think that Cisco paid $590 million for Flip just two years ago.
