Riding the underground rails

  • New Yorkers are criticized for acting as though there’s nothing but wilderness west of the Hudson River. I’m blind when it comes to subways. NYC is all I know. Of course I know that others exist; I just haven’t ridden on those rails, with one exception, but was it Montreal or Toronto. Does Toronto even have a subway?

Here’s a slideshow of what someone decided are the world’s seven greatest systems. Nothing from Canada. I love the NYC photo because of the woman looking suspiciously at the camera. That’s just how it was when I took the man-reading-the-Observer photo.

    Also, visit this and this.

  • Quitting Early: Does Sarah Palin consider herself a special case or should all public servants quit before that final lame-duck year arrives? She Twittered that her resignation was a great victory for the people of Alaska. I don’t dare comment on that one.
  • I did some kayaking in Lake Michigan last weekend. Nothing like this feat.
  • My cursive handwriting is both bad and partially non-cursive (sans serif?) Life Hacker wonders if cursive is dying off. It sounds as though I’m ahead of my time:

People born after 1980 tend to have a distinctive style of handwriting: a little bit sloppy, a little bit childish and almost never in cursive.
