Netflix and bandwidth

Netflix accounts for 20% of non-mobile bandwidth use during the evening hours:

“In fact, by every measure, we are now primarily a streaming company that also offers DVD-by-mail,” Hastings said in conjunction with the company’s earnings report Wednesday [pdf]. “At the same time, the introduction of our streaming offering in Canada in late September has provided us with very encouraging signs regarding the potential for the Netflix service internationally.”

The article mentions that it’s not good news for cable and satellite. I would add movie rental stores, but I guess that wasn’t even worth mentioning. They’re already “gone” as far as the near future is concerned.
