Researchers have studied nerds and they’ve contrasted the concept of Nerdiness with other categories such as Buffoon, Coward, Creep, Drip, Fool, Ingrate, Jerk, Liar, Scoundrel, Turkey, Wimp, etc. Nerd is thought to have originated in the 1950s. More here.
