Muh-REN’-see

The current batch of Google Alerts for Morenci are starting off like this: “The Morenci (muh-REN’-see) police chief plans…”

You know it should be mo-REN’-see or maybe mor-EN-see. Muhrenci is the colloquial pronunciation – I’m sure I say it myself – but it seems a little lazy. I wonder what they say in Morenci, Ariz.

What’s the alert? There’s a press conference at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the fire hall for an update on the Skelton brothers case.
