Michelle and her servants

I find it amusing how much some people detest the website Snopes.com. They want to believe their misinformed rumors and don’t spoil the fun for them.

I received an e-mail from a Fayette council member that seems to be making the circuit these days: “First Lady Requires More Than Twenty Attendants.” Such outrage! Michelle Obama has an unprecedented number of servants! Snopes lets you know that her staff size is on par with Laura Bush’s (actually smaller according to a former Bush staff member) and smaller than some other past First Ladies.

But Obama-hating is such good sport these days. How could Snopes go and ruin it like that?

  • Visitor: SpaceWeather has some information on a new asteroid visiting:

Newly-discovered asteroid 2009 WJ6 is flying past Earth today only 110,000 miles away–about half the distance to the Moon. At the time of closest approach (1100 UT on Nov. 20th) the 14-meter-wide space rock will glide through the northern constellation Draco glowing like a 16th magnitude star.

There’s also a great Northern Lights photo today.

  • Spider Workers: A note from the American Museum of Natural History:

A spectacular and extremely rare textile, woven from golden-colored silk thread produced by more than one million spiders in Madagascar, goes on display Wednesday, September 23 in the Museum’s Grand Gallery. This magnificent contemporary textile, measuring 11 feet by 4 feet, took four years to make using a painstaking technique developed more than 100 years ago.
