The answer appears to be that Mac is safer, but not necessarily more secure. The answer also depends upon which Windows system is in question. It’s still true that the Mac is safer because the market share is smaller and not as much attention is placed on it by hackers, especially not lazy hackers who don’t spend the time learning the code:
A careless Windows 7 user will probably run into lots of ways to get attacked by malware, whereas even the most careless Mac user seems unlikely to run into any. Even if Windows 7 is more secure than Mac OS X, the Mac is still safer.
