Glenn Beck falling?

Media Matters lists the remaining advertisers still supporting Glenn Beck’s TV show. StopBeck.com lists the much larger number that has pulled out. If you’re looking for entertainment and have nothing better to do, start going through the comments on StopBeck. Three were enough for me. I have better things to do. Here’s the remaining advertisers. Not exactly the big time:

Here are his March 29 sponsors, in the order they appeared:

* As reported by StopBeck.com, the last time ADT ran ads on Beck’s program, ADT advised that it was a “placement error” and took corrective action.

Rather than focus on what advertiser promotes themselves on Beck or not is not nearly as interesting as understanding why individuals are interested in censoring a political point of view, particularly on a pay-to-view basis.

“not nearly as interesting as understanding why individuals are interested in censoring a political point of view, particularly on a pay-to-view basis.”

I have a feeling that there is a plethora of information out there as to why this is the case.

I’m lost on this one. Someone is censoring Glenn Beck?

  4. contrarian says

Why would you try and target his advertisers if you were not trying to remove him from expressing his opinions on cable? It seems so anti-liberal, anti-progressive, anti-leaning left to try and silence an ability to broadcast an opinion. I thought that freedom to say anything, live and let live was one of the big tenets?

I don’t listen to his program but he evidently has the attention of those in your circle.

  5. contrarian says

Obviously in my haste to make light of the issue I errantly used “anti” when I meant to just say liberal, progressive and left leaning. Poke fun at my expense.

You misunderstood my posting. I merely found it interesting how dozens of major advertisers have exited and he’s left with these companies that, for the most part, I’ve never heard of . I’m not suggesting a boycott. Are there even any you could boycott if you wanted? Are you a customer of Holocaust Survivors Food Box or Lifestyle Lift or Tax Masters? What are these companies?

  7. contrarian says

You may have misunderstood my post. I was not suggesting you were trying for a boycott. Only the people that are running the program StopBeck and those that promote them.

Your point may be the point. Have they been successful?

I think it would be great if fewer and fewer advertisers wanted to be associated with Glenn Beck’s misinformation. Without support, he’ll eventually disappear (just like my newspaper would). Of course he has the freedom to say what he wants in America, but I’m old enough to remember when people who blathered on about conspiracies through misinformation were considered crackpots and not afforded a mainstream pulpit. Strange how things have changed.

I’m pleased to read the list of businesses that no longer support his show. To me, that sounds more like free-market than censorship.

I agree with you that advertisers that pull sponsorship and people that refuse to buy product is a demonstration of the free-market. The converse is also true which may explain some of Mr. Beck’s success.

I still maintain however that groups organized for the purpose of shutting down the free-flow of ideas is censorship. Two different things and situations.

Beck is giving up his show on Fox. As Salon’s Alex Pareene put it: “Glenn Beck, America’s single most trusted newsman, is “transitioning away” from his daily Fox News television show, which is press release talk for Beck leaving to pursue other moneymaking opportunities and Fox deciding to air something at 5 p.m. that it can actually sell advertising on.”

Is that cheering I’m hearing? Sounds like his ratings have fallen drastically while he still is the highest rated in his time slot.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting these.

When I read through a few of the “50 Worst Things Glenn Beck Said,” it was strange because it took me back to Fayette council meetings before the last election. There were a couple of council members who talked just like Beck. Now I see the influence. It was a little eerie reading those words.

This article suggests it may take 27 years to undo Beck’s 27 months of damage:

I wonder how I would fair if you published the 50 worst things I have said.

  15. Green says

You’re always hiding behind you Contrarian name. Tell us, do you have a national TV show?

  16. contrarian says

No national show. Just a big mouth.

  17. sybil diccion says

But contrarian, who is the judge who will determine the 50 worst things you’ve said? You? That might be a bit biased.

Your family? They may choose a whole ‘nuther set of 50.

But in either case, I’ll volunteer as an adjudicator because David is far too busy.

I didn’t mean to sell David short. I’m sure this blog reaches international audience.

Not taking me up on my offer, eh?

For a weekly newspaper, David’s website and blog have a good following. Here’s a link to his Google Analytics report for the latest 30 day period- Analytics_SLO20110411.pdf

Sybil- It is always a pleasure to hear your thoughts. I certainly was not planning to list my own worst things. It would be interesting to hear another’s point of view particularly after it has been dissected and removed from context, run through several blogs and then compliled.

In the absence of all that, I trust your own personal take. Have a crack at it.

  23. pcwjunk says

Hmm, the one thing no one mentioned was that Glenn Beck could have ‘left Fox to pursue other interests’ like running for President (God, help us all). He has already tried running for Spiritual Leader, why not President….?
