Several people have inquired about Morenci’s fizzy water. It’s only harmless air bubbles according to city superintendent Barney Vanderpool. One of the city’s water pumps was down recently and a lot of air got sucked into the system before the second pump was back in operation. Fill a clear glass with water, he said, and watch it clear up, with the lowest bubbles rising to the surface first.
The fire department has scheduled hydrant flushing tonight and he expects the water to clear up after that.
The incidence of the fizzy water can vary from house to house. Barney figures it’s because of the height of each individual tap.
