Crap detection

• Howard Rheingold wrote a primer he calls “Crap Detection 101” for evaluating information from web pages and e-mail. There are several resources mentioned to help ferret out the junk. Without the use of a real ferret.

He provides a good overview of the issue and lists resources at the end. I see a commenter adds the Daily Show to the list because of the way it points out the contradictions and false outrage of cable news.

• What’s the big news at FactCheck.org? It’s health care reform, of course. That’s where the kings of disinformation are now serving.

• The latest at Snopes.com covers missing and injured children and all the outrageous (and false) rumors about the Obama administration. Of course you know he used a non-U.S. passport to travel to Pakistan in 1981. It has to be true; you read it in that e-mail. Here’s the current Hot 25.”
