Camel collision

  • We have our white-tails…the United Arab Emirates have other problems:

The Emirati man died on Twaeen-al Saedi Road when he was apparently surprised by the animal and swerved to avoid it, police said. He hit it and his car was pushed into the path of an oncoming lorry. The man and the camel died at the scene; the lorry driver was unharmed.

  • Always a first time:

Ajman Police, who said they knew of no previous cases of chilli powder being used as a weapon, were investigating.

  • Just putrid. That describes the situation for the 15-year-old who fell into an open manhole while walking along the street and texting. This quickly enter the top 10 in bizarre lawsuits:

Her mother, Kim Longueira, said it did not matter that her daughter was texting when she fell down the hole. “Oh my God, it was putrid,” she told MNBC. “One of her sneakers is still down there.”

  • Five feet of flesh-eating lizard. That’s how the Nile monitor is described. There’s an interesting account of these invaders in the Tampa paper here:

The lizards’ weapons include: sharp, snake-like teeth, long, muscular tails they use as whips, and claws that look like the sinister pendants of voodoo necklaces. They can run up to 18 miles per hour on land and swim under water for an hour at a time.
