Morenci's softball girls celebrate a 5-2 win against Homer
Morenci had an exciting seventh-inning win against Homer in the regional tournament opener, then lost to number two ranked Summerfield in the finals, 9-3. That second game wasn’t without its excitement. In the bottom of the sixth, Meghan Smith (right) smacked a three-run homer to make it 7-3.
I take a very small piece of credit for her homer. Very, very small. Meghan and I were exchanging some messages Friday in regard to her information for the Top 5 Seniors page and I suggested that she probably has one more home run in her before ending her high school career. She agreed that it would be an excellent thing to do on Saturday and she did it, off of Summerfield’s all-state pitcher.
