Schools days to be made up 2.20

Written by David Green.

Winter weather is taking its toll on classroom time in Morenci and Fayette. Morenci has already added one day to the end of the school year while Fayette is on the brink of needing another day.

Morenci has actually added two days to the schedule. School will now be in session Feb. 29. Initially that was scheduled as a teacher records day at the end of the second trimester. The trimester will now end March 4.

The last day of school is now set for Friday, May 30.

One more change involves adding three minutes onto the school day at the middle and elementary schools beginning March 3. Students at both schools will now begin classes at 7:50 a.m. and will be released at 3:01 p.m.

Any additional cancellations this year will likely result in days added to the end of the school year, said middle school principal Kay Johnson.

Fayette has used up its allotted five weather days, said superintendent Russ Griggs, and any more cancellations will result in additional days added to the school year.

As of now, the last day of classes is also scheduled May 30 for Fayette students.
