12% suckers

  • A survey suggests that 12% of e-mail users are pulled in by spam mail. Bobbie Johnson writes:

We all scoff at the spam email that drops into our inboxes, and wonder how anyone ever falls for it – but a survey has suggested that around one in eight people has actually tried to buy something from a spam email.

  • In a dream last night, I announced at some banquet that I had ingested my first tomato of the season. I did in fact do that last night, but no banquet.
  • The Onvia company is “Tracking the Recovery.” There’s an interactive map of the country showing “stimulus” funding for each state and then each county. So far, only one project for Fulton County: $240,000 for the wealthiest community in the county – a road project in Archbold. I don’t know if Archbold is actually the wealthiest. It’s just odd that the “rich get richer” and an actual low-income rated community with high needs – such as Fayette – gets nothing.

Lenawee County has $2.6 million in the Adrian and Tecumseh areas. A lot of road projects. Not too many jobs involved.

  • I don’t recall hearing a lot about the swine flu these days, especially since it isn’t generally called that anymore, but in England the disease is really spreading. The link takes you to a database and a lovely photo:

The number of people diagnosed with swine flu in England soared by 42% during last week, new figures from GPs show. Cases in the north of England leapt almost six-fold, from 6.6 per 100,000 people to 37.16 per 100,000, between the week of 29 June to 5 July and the week after, 6-12 July.
