Icebergs in the news:
The 2,500 sq km (965 sq mile) iceberg broke off earlier this month from the Mertz Glacier’s 160 km (100 miles) floating tongue of ice that sticks out into the Southern Ocean.
This iceberg is described as the size of Luxembourg. Does that mean much to you? How familiar are you with the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg? It turns out that Luxembourg is a fairly common size, so maybe one of these other Luxembourg units will have more meaning to you.
The new piece of iceberg is about the size of:
Alachua County, Florida
Khutse Game Reserve, Botswanna
Sacramento County, Calif.
Ilam Province, Iran
Tonle Sap lake, Cambodia
Gauteng province, South Africa
Hopi Butte Volcanic Field, Arizona

Greater Sydney, Australia

Greater Melbourne, Australia
Inle Lake, Mymar
Lake Poopo, Bolivia (when full)

Infe district, Morocco
