For a wacko like me, watching the Pollen Viewer tool is a wonderful thing to do. The National Climatic Data Center has a paleoclimatology division that looks at climate from the past. Climate change is not a new concept, of course. There have been immense changes over the eons.
The Pollen Viewer allows the user to select a plant and watch how it dispersed in the U.S. during the past 21,000 years. Even if you don’t care about where oak trees were established and de-established, just run through it once to watch the huge Lake Agassiz come and go. Scientists use the model to watch how plants have adapted to changes in temperature and moisture. And get a hint of what might be coming.
