Mutton down, chicken up

Chicken consumption has nearly doubled in the U.S. since 1980. That’s just amazing. What a huge change. There’s a chart here showing changes in several items. The consumption of many meats has fallen, with the void filled by chicken.

Take a guess about yogurt. Too easy. Who ate yogurt in 1980? The consumption increase is approaching five-fold.

  • Make your own: Here’s an interesting, very detailed recipe for bread, complete with some commentary. You’ll have to translate from grams, but I think you can figure out “A quick glug of olive oil.”
  • Plant a tree today: “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago – the next best time is now.” That’s a good one. Don’t delay. I cut a tree down Saturday so I need to join in the planting. Plant a tree to lock up some carbon.
  • Most sought after: ://URLFan ranks websites based on blog mentions. There are two surprises to me: IMDB (Internet Movie Database) and Apple. Here’s the top 10:
    1. en.wikipedia.org
    2. youtube.com
    3. flickr.com
    4. twitter.com
    5. google.com
