Andrew Revkin reports on conversation with James Salhany, a professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The topic is America’s lagging investment in scientific inquiry:

I believe we are in a “brain race” in terms of global competition for discoveries upon which our standard of living will be based going forward. A balanced approach to our education and research funding is critical to the level of innovation necessary to maintain that standard of living. We cannot have a country consisting solely of accountants, health care providers, lawyers, etc.
