| Jim & Deb Yatzek named Morenci Citizens of the Year 7.04 |
|
How did you end up in Morenci? Deb: I ended up in Morenci when my parents moved here from Pennsylvania. My dad came here for a job. Jim: I moved to the Morenci area from Detroit when I was 12, in 1967. How long have you lived here? Deb: We moved here in 1969. Jim: We’ve lived in town since 1980, and I lived in Medina through my school years. List the top three things you like about Morenci? Deb: I like Morenci because I know most people, and better yet, I like them. I like the fact that I can take a walk at midnight and feel safe. I think we have a great school system. Jim: It’s size, it’s sense of community, and it’s people. In what ways have you seen Morenci change over the years? Deb: I guess I feel like Morenci hasn’t changed a lot over the years and that is what I love about it. Jim: I think to some degree it reflects what society on a larger scale is experiencing—less continuity and stability in family life. |
