Watch out for phish scams

Morenci resident Tom Coller knew something was fishy was up when he received e-mail asking requesting that he re-set his on-line banking passcode.

Actually, it was something phishy going on.

Phishing, according to Wikipedia, is the term used for those who attempt to fraudulently acquire sensitive information, such as usernames, passwords and credit card details, by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.

In Coller’s case, the letter was supposedly from the Bank of America and informed him that his account was temporarily locked for security reasons. He was given a link that would enable him to reset his passcode—just the information the phisher needed to access his account.
