Fayette school: contract, levy 6.20

Support staff in the Gorham Fayette school district will start the year with a new three-year contract.

Secretaries, bus drivers, custodians, cooks and paraprofessionals will receive a salary increase but contribute more to their health insurance coverage.

Board of education members voted Monday to approve a three-year contract calling for a salary increase of three percent in each year.

Support staff members currently pay five percent of their health insurance premium, but the new contract increases that amount to 10 percent.

LEVY - Board members voted in March to let a seven-mill operating levy expire at the end of the year. At least two trustees are ready to reconsider that action.

Terry Kovar brought up the prospect of bringing the levy back to voters. Work would have to start soon, he said, to have the issue appear on the November ballot.

Fred Stockburger said he’s heard from a few district residents that the levy shouldn’t be abandoned.
