Morenci’s state track and field qualifiers will go up against the best Saturday in Grand Rapids for the Div. IV state finals.

Eleven Bulldog athletes will compete in eight events.

Rankings are based on performances at the regional meets, and that places senior Leah Shankster as the Morenci entry in the best standing.

Her :48.99 performance in the 300-meter hurdles is the seventh best among the qualifiers, however, she improved to :47.56 last week at the Tri-County Conference meet, moving right up to number two in the state.

That was without a close contender.
