An audience of about 30 people received a line-by-line look at the City of Morenci proposed budget for the next fiscal year.

The balanced budget proposal seemed to catch at least one resident by surprise, leading to the question, “So why is there a problem?”

The answer is the same one legal and finance committee chair Keith Pennington gave two weeks ago when he first talked about the proposed layoffs of three staff members: “We have no savings. We’ve found that we can’t operate year after year without any savings.”
