April weather review with George Isobar 5.9

It’s time to pull out that old quote from T.S. Eliot’s “The Waste Land.”

April is the cruelest month, breeding lilacs out of the dead land, mixing memory and desire, stirring dull roots with spring rain.

“I’m not sure what Elliot was getting at with those lines,” said Morenci weather observer George Isobar, “but last month did have some cruel weather for us.”

April 1: 71°

April 2: 66°

April 3: 77°

Then it fell apart.

Five days with a high in the 30s. Nine days with at least a trace of snow.

By the time it was over, 1.9 inches of snow had fallen during April.

“That’s the most snow we’ve have in April since 1994 when we had an unusual 7.1 inches,” Isobar said. “Before that, you have to go back to 1982 when 10.3 inches fell.”
