| David Munson's efforts appreciated |

By DAVID GREEN Last week David Munson announced his impending resignation as head of the Lenawee Chamber for Economic Development. That news came as a blow to many people in Morenci. Munson was charged with working for every community in Lenawee County—a delicate dance in which he had to avoid favoritism toward any one area. Perhaps government officials in every city are mourning the loss of Munson, and if so, that would be a tribute to his efforts to serve all. We don’t what’s being said in Blissfield or Clinton or the other towns, but in this office, we feel a great sense of loss. Over the past 20 years that Munson served, city council members frequently debated the value of sending taxpayers’ money to Adrian for continued representation by the county development group, once known as Lenawee Tomorrow. During her years as city clerk, Renée Schroeder seemed to know better than anyone that Munson was an ally to the people of Morenci and support of his endeavors was a good investment. She’s been proved right more than once. Munson always kept Morenci in mind when business prospects came calling. The number of “close calls” is impressive, but most industrial development went elsewhere, often out of the state. However, Munson played a key role in helping a plastics firm build here, in developing our industrial park, in smoothing the arrival of Alpine Manufacturing, and in several other projects involving state support. We can only hope that his successor gets to know our community as well as he did. Perhaps David Munson really did treat everybody equally, but he made us feel that, in his mind, Morenci was an important place. – Feb. 21, 2007 |
