Fayette council hears about wind power 3.28

Is wind power in Fayette’s future?

It’s a possibility, albeit a remote one.

During a regular meeting Thursday, village council members spoke with Fulton County commissioners Joe Short and Paul Barnaby about the feasibility of installing a windmill turbine in or around Fayette.

A preliminary study presented to the commissioners earlier this month showed that areas near Fayette, Lyons and Metamora may be ideal for wind farms, but learning just how ideal they are could cost a great deal of money.

Before a permanent windmill can be erected, a test tower must be set up. The tower, which could cost as much as $450,000, would measure the altitude at which the most energy can be harvested. This process in itself entails additional material costs and engineering fees.
