Nathan Stoltzfus given county scholar award 3.19

Fayette’s representative at the annual Franklin B. Walter Awards emerged as the top senior in Fulton County.

Nathan Stoltzfus represented Fayette at the award dinner March 11 and there he was named  the overall Fulton County scholar. Stoltzfus will represent the county at the state awards assembly.

The Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award program was organized in 1990 by the Ohio Educational Service Center Association to honor Walter, a past state school superintendent.

To be eligible for the award, senior students must demonstrate outstanding achievement in five areas: involvement in school activities, awards received, personal goal statement, grade point average and ACT/SAT score.

Each district winner received a check for $150 and each county winner receives an additional $500 scholarship.

The Northwest Ohio awards—including Fulton, Defiance, Henry and Williams counties—were presented at Northwest State Community College.

Each district student winner gave a tribute to one teacher who played an influential role in their education. Stoltzfus spoke about Fayette Spanish teacher Alysa Sauder.
