Ohio EPA reschedules Fayette meeting 1.30.08

Representatives from the Ohio EPA office will meet with Fayette residents at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 12 to provide an update on plans regarding cleanup at the former Fayette Tubular Products site and school property.

The meeting, rescheduled from December, is planned in the Fayette Tubular Products conference room.

The Ohio EPA will discuss the upcoming release of the preferred plan—a document detailing the plan for cleaning up the site. The agency is in the process of making final changes to the plan.

When complete, the plan will be available to the public and a public hearing will be scheduled.

The plan will include information about the future of the former factory site and the adjacent school grounds.

Ground water at the site is contaminated with with chlorinated solvents, including trichloroethylene (TCE), which are chemicals used by manufacturers to degrease metal.

D.H. Holdings is responsible for cleaning up the site.
