Fire department buys thermal imaging camera 9.06

When the Morenci Fire Sirens—the fire department auxiliary group—asked officers Chad Schisler and Brad Lonis what was on their wish list, the two men were quick with an answer. A thermal imaging camera was at the top of the list.

With a $10,000 price tag, however, the Fire Sirens knew it wouldn’t be any time soon that they could afford that purchase—at least not if they did it on their own.

That’s where the Charles Fay Foundation came into play. The local organization donated more than half of the cost of the camera to go along with the thousands of dollars the Fire Sirens earned through fund raising.

The Morenci Firemen’s Association kicked in some money, too, and now the camera is part of the department inventory of equipment. Chief Schisler expects to spend another thousand dollars for specialized training before the device will be used to its full capability.
