Fayette school making healthy changes 8.22

Fayette students will find some differences in the school food service this year as the district’s school health team moves forward with new ideas.

More nutritious lunch options and increased opportunities for physical activity highlight an action plan developed by school staff members and students. The effort is part of a federal requirement for the development and updating of a district wellness plan for schools receiving food aid.

“There’s a lot of research showing that healthy students perform better in school,” said Sue Repp, cafeteria supervisor. “We’re excited about working with others in our community to make sure that our students are healthy and can succeed.”

Repp said students will see more whole grain and low-fat food items, plus additional fresh and canned fruit, and fresh vegetables. Many entrée items will have less fat than in the past.
