Morenci students score well on ACT 8.22

Morenci Superintendent of Schools Kyle Griffith knows there’s no guarantee results will be repeated next year, but he’s not about to this achievement go by unnoticed.

When results of the ACT testing were released by the state education department last week, Morenci stood as the third best in Lenawee County and above the state average.

This year’s senior class took the exam last spring—the first year the college entrance test was required for all juniors. The average score of the 60 Morenci students came in at 19.25, ahead of the state average at 18.79. Eight county school districts scored below the state average.

“A lot of effort was put into that throughout the year,” Griffith said, but he looks back farther for the complete picture.

The success is shown at the high school level, he said, but it reflects on the district as a whole.

“Skills are built one upon the other from pre-K to graduation,” he said.

Griffith admits that each class has its own characteristics and test results don’t hold steady from year to year.
