No more talk about how dry it’s been, about how far behind we are for the year. It’s a whole new season of weather data.

Here’s the tally from Morenci climate observer George Isobar, as of Tuesday morning:

2.89, total for this week;

7.86, total for this month;

10.12, total since July 27.

“July 27 is the significant date,” Isobar said. “That’s when we received 2.26 inches to break the long dry spell. All we’ve had since then is a long wet spell.”

As always, Isobar says, conditions may vary. He’s heard reports from the area that exceed those figures.

“It’s a heck of a lot of rain in less than a month,” he said. “Since late July, we’re averaging four tenths of an inch a day. I’m sure glad I didn’t head off for vacation Saturday.”

With a week and a half yet remaining in the month, August could end up the wettest one in the past 30 years. It’s already running a close third.

Before you start complaining about gardens turning to jungles and flooded field, it’s almost always worse somewhere else, Isobar noted.

Reports from Hardin County, Ohio, indicate more than eight inches of rain from yesterday’s deluge.
