If financial troubles are hurting those who can buy luxury yachts, perhaps the country’s economic condition is worse than some perceive. Hinckley Yachts of Trenton, Maine, is laying off 9% of its workforce at the company’s luxury picnic jet boat production facility.

It might be worse elsewhere. A company spokesperson says Hinckley is in a much better position than almost any other luxury boat maker.
